U13 Cromer Kings - Adam Hayes March 09 2013

With all the rain and no games for a month, taking the long trek to Careel Bay for an 8am start with 11 players ready to go was a great achievement by the parents. Nicholas Corcoran was captain, playing his last game for Cromer.

Peninsula won the toss and decided to bat. Keeping the ball dry was going to be a goal with a very damp ground and overcast conditions. Ethan Jenkins bowled a great opening spell (1/7) with a caught behind in his first over. Angus supported him (O/6), as did James Schulenburg (0/6) and Jake de Angelis bowled brilliantly with 2 wickets (2/5) to have Peninsula at 3 for 17. With some big hitting and a wet ball, bowling was not easy for the next part of the game with bowlers doing well Nathan Hogg (0/7), Tenkyong Tenzin (0/11), Nicholas Corcoran (0/23), Ben Quinn (0/14).

With Peninsula on 3 for 84 and 6 overs to bowl, the game could have got away from Cromer. Adam Hayes came on to bowl spin in a game for the first time taking wickets with his first 2 deliveries to be on a hat-trick bowling his third ball. His next over produced another 2 wickets to be on another hat-trick. Adam finished with (4/5) and Lachlan Scheffers (2/5) bowled tightly at the other end to pick up 2 wickets and Adam ran out the final batsman with their total on 94. Despite the wet ball, there were a few of the 8 dropped catches that could have been taken that would have reduced their total considerably as their most dominant batsman contributing 50 runs and providing plenty of wicket taking opportunities.

Cromer opened with Nathan Hogg (2) and Lachlan Scheffers (18). Amongst 3 golden ducks, Nick hit a quick 29 including 2 4’s after drinks to really help control the game, Ethan (6) and Adam (23no) batted solidly and hit the winning runs with 10 overs spare.

Adam Hayes is a well deserved Man of the Match with outstanding bowling and batting.
