U13 Cromer Kings - James Schulenburg December 15 2012

Playing against the undefeated first place team after last week losing a game that should have been won the boys needed to show they can win against any opposition. Both teams were down on troops. Winning the toss the captain Nathan Hogg sent the opposition in to bat.

Opening the bowling Nathan Hogg (1/5) set the tone for the day with a magnificent spell of acute pace to bowl one of their key batsman in the second over for 2 runs. First change bowler Lachlan Scheffers produced an edge that was going for 4, except that Ben Quinn at second slip intercepted the ball in a spectacular catch to claim their second opening batsman.

With their No. 3 looking for some big shots, tight bowling was needed. The middle order bowlers did just that with Nick Corcoran (0/4) off 3 overs, Joel Mule having a fall and injuring his back prior to the game soldiered on to field and still managed 3 overs for 13 runs to help keep the score down. Angus O’Donnell likewise (0/11) off 3 overs. With the retirement of their No 3, Ethan Jenkins took the next wicket (1/8).

Jeremy Tolman playing 2 years above his age group bowled with some nerves to have only 5 runs hit off the bat from his 2 overs. He also did brilliantly in the field to help keep their score down. Next up James Schulenburg (4/14) after taking a superb catch of Ethan’s bowling came on and took a wicket in each of his 3 overs with a double wicket maiden in his second over.

Jake De Angelis bowled a great over to concede just one run when the opposition was looking to hit out. Jake’s younger brother Harry from U9’s was a star in the field showing the boys how ground fielding was done including return throws to the keeper’s gloves. Man of the Match James Schulenburg finished off their last batsman with a direct hit runout to have them 9/108 after 30 overs.

In reply Jake (14) and Angus (27 retired no) opened and set the platform for the team with a partnership of 36. Ethan (5), Nick (4) kept the runs ticking. James (9) hit two 4’s to lift the run rate. Lachlan (9no) was joined by Kyle Martin (21no), the pair maintained their scoring with brilliant running between the wickets, making singles into 2’s and normal 2 runs into 3’s to bring up the required runs in the second last over to have us 5/109 and Collaroy Plateau no longer undefeated.

Man of the Match was James Schulenburg for his great contribution in bowling, batting and fielding.
