Cromer U13 Kings Play of the Day - Nick Corcoran and Ben Quinn October 13 2012

Batting first, the team dug an enormous hole through lack of footwork to be 7 for 48, despite Angus O’Donnell contributing 18 of those runs. Enter Tenkyong Tenzin (22) and Adam Hayes who lifted the total to 91 before Tenk lost his wicket. The tail did little more than the top order leaving Adam stranded on 21 no with almost 7 overs left. The total of 97 was only going to be not enough if Cromer’s bowling was accurate.

In reply, the bowling was below par with full toss and short pitched balls allowing the Collaroy Plateau batsman to some easy runs. It took the bowling of Joel Mule with a great catch from Tenk to break the opening partnership, however at the 15 over drinks mark and the total at 1 for 70 odd, the final session was not predicted to last too long. A maiden from Nathan Hogg followed by a stumping by wicketkeeper Ben Quinn off the bowling of Tenk, gave a little hope. 2 overs later, no one could predict what was to occur. Nick Corcoran delivered such a well flighted leg spin delivery, the Collaroy batsman danced down the pitch to what he must have hoped was a gift 4 runs hit down the ground. Only problem is you need to hit the ball first and having been well beaten with flight and spin, Ben was able to comfortably take the bails off for another stumping with the batsman stranded a long way from home. Next batsman, same delivery produced the same result, although the batsman was a little more aware and only 1m out of the crease when Ben once again took the bails off. On a hatrick ball, obviously the batsman was going to stand his ground and not get caught out of his crease. Problem was the hatrick ball was identical to the previous 2 in flight and the batsman trying to get to the pitch of the ball, overbalanced and stepped out of his crease. By now Ben Quinn was more than efficient in taking the bails off before the bat could be grounded. The game ended soon after with Collaroy Plateau hitting the winning runs, however the question begs asking, who has witnessed a hatrick with each wicket out stumped. Well done Nick and Ben for producing an unforgettable occasion.
