Cromer BBQs Play of the Day - Brett Holliday October 13 2012

After posting a competitive total of 191 against Manly Breakers in a rain induced one-dayer at Keirle Park 2, the BBQs were confident of claiming their second victory in as many rounds.

The opening bowlers bowled with accuracy and intent, and by the end of the 14th over Cromer was well on truly on top, having restricted the opposition to just 45 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

One of the Breakers’ opening batsmen was proving to be a thorn in the BBQs’ side, as he batted his side back into the match with consecutive 50-run partnerships. It was at this point that Brett Holliday was thrown the ball and asked to defend the short square boundary on the leg-side. For the first 5 overs he did this admirably; in the process taking the wicket of the century-making opened courtesy of a spectacular one-handed outfield catch by George Wyllie.

Defending 16 runs in the last over, Brett’s line eventually erred and his first ball was dispatched into the adjacent croquet club. But he responded in fine style, taking a wicket with his next ball, followed by a single, and then wickets with the last two balls of the match to seal the victory by 9 runs.
